Civil police officers in Rio de Janeiro are carrying out an action this Tuesday (24) to suppress the theft of cigarette shipments in Rio de Janeiro. This is another phase of Operation Tourniquet, which aims to suppress this type of crime in the state.
According to the Civil Police, 16 arrest warrants and 12 search and seizure warrants are being served against suspects of being part of the criminal group. As of 8:30 this morning, six people had already been arrested and another four warrants were served within the prison system.
According to investigations, the group caused losses of R$3 million due to cargo theft. The operation, led by the Civil Police, has the support of the Military Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
