In Lima, the mayor of the Surco district, Carlos Bruce, former Minister of Housing and former congressman, joined the Somos Perú party with aspirations of becoming the highest authority in the capital. The president of the group, Patricia Li, told La República that she welcomes him and “returns to his home again,” having started there in 2000.
To compete for the same position, the Popular Renewal Party is calling for Congresswoman Norma Yarrow, who has been a councilor and official in the municipal administrations of Luis Castañeda Lossio.
In Alliance for Progress (APP), the mayor of the Lima district of Magdalena, Francis Allison, is the candidate to try to reach the capital’s mayoralty.
In Podemos Peru, councilor and former congressman Aron Espinoza, especially critical of the current mayor Rafael López Aliaga, is also said to be in line to succeed him.
In Callao, the provincial mayor Pedro Spadaro, from Renovación Popular, is being rumoured to be running for the regional government; the current governor Ciro Castillo Rojo, from APP, if Congress approves his re-election; the former Minister of the Interior Cluber Aliaga, from Somos Perú; the former congressman Paul García, from Avanza País, and the doctor and former official Kethey Pacheco, from Progresemos.
For the provincial mayorship of Callao, Spadaro or his deputy mayor, César Pérez, from Renovación, would also go; the former mayor of Ventanilla Omar Marcos, from Avanza País; and the former mayor of Carmen de la Legua-Reynoso Carlos Cox, from Somos Perú.
In Arequipa, former governor Yamila Osorio, from the United Regionalist Peru party, in the process of registration, and current governor Rohel Sánchez, who is not yet affiliated, are being considered for the regional election.
In La Libertad, former congressman Elias Rodriguez, from Podemos Peru, Gian Marco Quezada and Mariano Andres Yupanqui Miñano, from Fuerza Popular, Martin Namay, from APP, Luis Moran from APRA and Monica Sanchez from Somos Peru, have been appointed to the regional government.
For the mayoralty of Trujillo, Robert de La Cruz, from Podemos; Luis Santa Maria, from APRA; Jose Ruiz Prudencio, from Fuerza Popular; and Juan Jose Ford or Maria Olortegui, from APP, are being talked about.
Daniel Salaverry returns to Somos Perú and is considering whether to run for regional government or mayor.
In Puno, the following are being considered for the regional government: businessman Eduardo Quispe, from Ahora Nación; journalist Hugo Supo, from Perú Primero; and congressman Mariano Portugal, from APP. Former mayor Luis Butrón, from Ahora Nación, is being considered for the Puno mayoralty.
In Piura, the provincial mayor Gabriel Madrid, from APP; the former candidate Santiago Paz, from Somos Perú; and the former legislator Jhony Peralta, from Acción Popular, are looking to the regional government.
