Ralph Gonsalves says Maduro is the best thing for Guyana’s oil sector

Ralph Gonsalves says Maduro is the best thing for Guyana's oil sector

The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, said this Sunday that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro “is in the best interest of Guyana’s oil sector.”

“Between Maduro and the right in Venezuela, I advise you to choose Maduro. The right will seek to allow the Americans to keep the oil in Venezuela, to set up shop to take over PDVSA (state oil company) and try to run the Guyana oil industry from Caracas,” Gonsalves said, as reported by local media and reported by the EFE Agency.

Gonsalves stressed that he believes that by rejecting the right-wing opposition, Venezuelans implemented a measure that would benefit the security of the Guyanese oil industry.

Guyana has experienced an economic revolution since the discovery of oil off its coast in 2015, with reserves totalling more than 11 billion barrels.

On the other hand, Gonsalves was the first Caribbean leader to congratulate President Maduro on his victory in the elections of July 28.

The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also reiterated that in his opinion, the Venezuelan elections of July 28 were “fair and free.”

“The United States cannot teach me about elections and democracy. I have seen what has happened in my life,” the president said.
