OPEC defends strategy to support all energy sources

The Secretary General of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC), Kuwaiti Haitham al Ghais, defended this Monday in Brazil a strategy that supports all sources of energy and said that to achieve this, “adequate” investment is required over many decades.

OPEC “continues to advocate for a strategy that supports all energy sources and all energies to provide fair and balanced energy pathways for all people in the world,” he said during his speech at the opening of a conference on oil in Rio de Janeiro.

In that sense, he said that this means the articulation between energy securityenergy accessibility and emissions reduction, a task that “requires adequate investments today, tomorrow and for many decades to come.”
