How long will AMLO’s six-year term last?
López Obrador’s six-year term will last just under six years and the reason for this is not a ‘plot’, but rather it is due to what is established by the law on political-electoral matters following a reform approved on February 10, 2014.
Previously, elected presidents assumed office on December 1 and passed the baton to their successor six years later. However, with this reform it was established that the head of the federal executive must leave power on October 1.
This means that López Obrador’s government will last two months less than that of other presidents.
In this way, AMLO will be the first Mexican federal president to leave office October 1st, something that will happen this 2024.
