The National Institute for Student Welfare (Inabie) distributes more than five million daily meals between breakfast and lunch in 6,908 schools, of which 5,446 operate under the Extended School Day scheme.

The information was provided by Víctor Castro and Rosaura Brito, executive director and financial director of the institution, in a meeting with the economic press.
They pointed out that out of a budget of RD$33,681 million, Inabie has executed RD$27,612 million, for an execution of 83%. They expect that the 2025 budget will have a larger amount.
Inabie paid RD$4,768 million to suppliers in August, almost a billion more than the same period in 2023.
They highlighted that Inabie impacts more than two million people, including students, teachers and support staff.
It was reported that RD$3.3 billion of a budget of RD$4.463 billion have been spent on school supplies.
They said that more than 700,000 families benefit from savings on education, food and health through Inabie programs.
The impact of the investment is reflected in the reduction of school absenteeism, the guarantee of healthy food and the possibility for parents to carry out productive work.
Inabie has 2,136 supplier companies. These include 1,550 kitchens, 258 bakeries, 143 textile and footwear companies, 10 milk processors and 137 raw food suppliers.
The institution has managed to reduce payment time by between 30 and 45 days and has issued 18,452 invoices during one year. 95% of Inabie’s suppliers are MSMEs.
