The Small Farmers Movement (MPA) denounced the murder of peasant leader Iraidez Andrade Duque (43), an event that occurred last Friday night in Pedraza (Barinas).
Preliminary reports indicate that on Friday night, armed and hooded men took Iraidez from his residence located on the Las Mercedes ranch, located in the aforementioned town of Barinas.
And the next day, Iraidez’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the head, on a public road adjacent to the Las Mercedes ranch.
Iraidez was part of the Conflict Resolution Board set up by the Ministry of Agriculture to address the case of the Las Mercedes ranch, occupied by farmers since 2016. He was also a spokesperson for the Los Sueños de Chávez communal council.
The MPA issued a statement demanding justice and expressing its support for President Nicolás Maduro “to put an end once and for all to the peasant assassination that has so far shed the blood of more than 350 peasants.”
