Who is Eudoro González and what role did he play in Edmundo González’s departure from the country?

Eudoro González

Eudoro González Dellán is a lawyer and former deputy for the MUS. He belonged to Primero Justicia. He is currently the lieutenant of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. His role in Edmundo González’s departure from the country is fundamental and has generated controversy in the opposition, according to sources from the Spanish newspaper Okdiario.

In the negotiations to grant asylum to Edmundo González, not only Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, the Spanish ambassador to Venezuela, Ramón Santos, and the former Spanish President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, played a leading role; Eudoro González Dellán was also involved, but who is he?

Eudoro González Dellán is a lawyer and former deputy for the Democratic Unity Roundtable. His role in this decision has generated controversy and questions, especially within the opposition because he is seen as an infiltrator.

During the press conference, Jorge Rodríguez confirmed the participation of an interlocutor in these negotiations, but said he would not mention his name “to avoid the fascists in Spain… attacking this man,” he said.

However, it was learned that this man is Eudoro González, who according to a source from EThe Worldis accused of acting as a “double agent” to favor the interests of Nicolás Maduro’s administration.

Eudoro González was a member of Primero Justicia and participated in negotiations between the Government and the opposition, such as those held in the Dominican Republic in 2018. That year he went into exile in Spain after receiving threats from the ruling party. His return to the country to support the candidacy of Edmundo González surprised many, especially members of the campaign team, who did not look favorably on the closeness to the presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform.

According to reports in the Spanish press, Eudoro González is the lieutenant of former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and was in charge of directing Edmundo González’s departure from Venezuela. It is said that he was responsible for the opposition leader confirming to the government that he would remain on the sidelines of Venezuelan politics from exile.

Eudoro González was present at the negotiations at the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Caracas and on board the Falcon plane that took González from the Simón Bolívar international airport. Eudoro González is a trusted man of Rodríguez Zapatero and gave guarantees that the opposition leader “would not be a paper president”; that is, that he would not serve as the elected president of Venezuela from Spain.

Audio recordings of the conversation between the Rodríguez brothers, Edmundo González and the Spanish ambassador show how Eudoro González speaks on behalf of the candidate and says: “He said it, I am not his spokesperson,” about the fact that he will not hold office from abroad and also notes: “We know who will insist” that he be recognized as president.

Spanish media sources contradict the Spanish authorities and maintain that they did negotiate with Nicolás Maduro and claim that there was blackmail and extortion in the Spanish Embassy under the watchful eye of Ambassador Ramón Santos.

“Eudoro González has had a close relationship for years with both Edmundo and Zapatero, who was the first to call him to offer himself as a mediator with the regime,” said these sources.

Eudoro González’s brother, Leonardo González Dellán, was appointed by Chávez to head the Industrial Bank of Venezuela (BIV) between 2002 and 2004 – and a great friend of Zapatero. “Eudoro and Zapatero are almost the same when it comes to helping the regime,” say the same sources.

It is also said that Cuban Intelligence already had its sights set on infiltrating Eudoro González into the negotiations, all behind the back of the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, who was kept on the sidelines so as not to frustrate the extortion operation against the legitimate winner of the presidential elections of July 28, according to the more than 25 thousand minutes published by the Unit.

Pedro Sánchez is asked for explanations

The leader of Spain’s Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on Thursday called for the resignation of Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and for explanations from Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for the coercion of opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia during his stay at the Spanish embassy in Caracas.

“The Spanish government has lied, Spanish diplomacy, an essential pillar of European diplomacy in Latin America, cannot be at the service of a dictatorial regime,” said Núñez Feijóo after meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, Italy.

He considered that the Spanish ambassador in Venezuela “must be replaced, the Foreign Minister must resign and the President of the Spanish Government must give immediate explanations (…) There can be no equidistance between dictatorship and democracy.”
