A group of firefighters, led by Daniel Velázquez, is surrounded by fire in Monte Verde. Although they are safe – as they made known – they are not out of danger yet, because The fire does not allow them to leave by land. For this reason, different groups of activists and volunteers, as well as the deputy María René Álvarez, are asking the Government for help in their rescue.
“Thank God Daniel and his firefighters are safe; they have arrived a protected area, but they are surrounded by fire (…) waiting for rescue”said, through an audio recording, the volunteer Marcelo Bruno, who was in contact with Velázquez. However, the number of people who make up the group is not known.
Earlier the The mayor of the Monte Verde community, Verónica Román, had indicated that seven community members were trapped by the fire. and that they had asked the sub-government for help to rescue them. The difficulty in communicating with the area makes it impossible to know if it is the same group of people or a second group.
The national government announced that this Sunday 22nd the air operation to put out the fires will begin that afflict Santa Cruz. In addition, the Minister of Defense indicated that the aircraft they have available will also carry out air transport of people if required.
The aircraft that will participate in the operation are: the French helicopter (Eco Charlie type, with a capacity of 1,000 L of water with a Bambi bucket), another Bolivian Eco Charlie helicopter; two Hercules aircraft, which carry the guardian-type boxes; a Z9 helicopter from the Army, a Super Puma helicopter and the Electra T481 Tanker Aircraft, which arrived from Canada.
