Vice President Raquel Peña delivers 50 eco-homes with the director of Propeep

Vicepresidenta Raquel Peña entrega 50 eco-viviendas junto a director del Propeep

Montecristi, DR.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, together with the General Director of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep), Roberto Ángel Salcedo, led this Saturday the inauguration of the new Montecristi Community Housing Center in the La Aviación sector, Montecristi province, where the keys were formally handed over to 50 families in the area who were in a vulnerable condition.

The housing project, which has been designed to improve the quality of life of the neediest families in this province, offers fully furnished 44-square-metre homes.

Each of the housing solutions has a front terrace, living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.

During the tour of the homes, the vice president said that “this project is not just about housing, but about hope,” since each home delivered is a step forward in the fight against multidimensional poverty, allowing families to dream of a more stable and prosperous future.

Democratization of social action

In the central speech of the event, Roberto Ángel said that during the four years of the Government of President Luis Abinader, social action has been democratized, which is manifested equally in each territory of the Dominican Republic, and Montecristi, with San Fernando as its main municipality, is no exception.

“In the President and Vice President of the Republic we have a man and a woman with a clear conception of what is human and what is close. They are knowledgeable about the Dominican problems in all their aspects and, therefore, have a sustained, efficient policy in social matters that continues to impact and touch the lives of the most vulnerable in the Dominican Republic,” emphasized Roberto Ángel.

He stressed that these 50 homes will definitely transform the living conditions of the same number of families, always keeping dignity as a basic and fundamental element.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the homes include Anny Carolina Villalona, Francisco Javier Suero Gil, Andres Avelino, Vinicio Rivas, Altagracia de Jesus Zapata Gomez and Eusebio Rodriguez Garcia, and Santa Marte de los Santos, among others.

Authorities present

The Vice President and Roberto Angel were accompanied by the Civil Governor of the province of Montecristi, Nelsy Cruz, and of Dajabon, Severina Gil; Senator Bernardo Aleman Rodriguez; Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; as well as the Mayor of the municipality of Montecristi, Jesus Jerez; and the deputies Rosendy Polanco and Jhanny Martinez.

Also present were Madelen Díaz, director of the Dominicana Digna program, the engineer in charge of the project José Noboa for Propeep and other government and provincial authorities.

Dignifying project

Among the project’s outstanding innovations are the roofs with aluzinc thermal panels and PVC ceilings, which guarantee greater energy efficiency and thermal comfort. In addition, they have been equipped with a dual energy system, since the homes will have both conventional electricity supplied by the Northern Energy Distribution Company (Edenorte); as well as energy generated through solar panels, contributing to reducing the cost of the electricity bill and environmental sustainability.

The water supply comes from the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (Inapa), which is stored in an elevated tank or cistern with a capacity of 30,000 gallons, which, by gravity, will supply all the homes in the complex.

A wastewater treatment system has also been installed, including pipes connected to sanitary registers and grease traps, which flow into the drains and are integrated into the area’s sewer system.

The Montecristi Community Housing Center also has a children’s play area, common areas, pedestrian and vehicular circulation routes, green areas and a garbage dump, all designed to guarantee a safe, organized and favorable environment for the development of the community.

Likewise, it has the installation of poles and lights to receive the electric power service in the outdoor area.

With this delivery, the Government reaffirms its commitment to providing decent and safe housing solutions, improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable families in the country.

Testimonials from beneficiaries

With a look of joy on her face, beneficiary Anny Carolina Villalona, mother of a 10-year-old girl who was visually impaired as a result of a traffic accident when she was six months pregnant, said, “I feel happy because it is not the same as being at home, in your own home, as in your mother’s, and finally, thank God, I have my own home.”

Likewise, Andrés Avelino Rivas (El Bombero) upon receiving his new, furnished house, said, “I was never thinking about this house and now look how much I like it, this house that transforms my life, thanks to Luis Abinader, Roberto Ángel Salcedo and the colonel of the firefighters because they helped me get my own house.”
