Adrianzén: Petroperú enters a delicate stage

Petroperú

It has been 10 days since the resignation of the board of directors Petroperu And although there is already a rescue plan for the company, the board of directors that will execute it will only be announced next week. This was confirmed by the President of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, who preferred not to provide the names that are being evaluated.

“Petroperú is entering a new phase, it is a delicate phase that requires the best professionals we can find in the market to lead it. There is a lot of speculation, but we prefer to keep it under wraps until we have confirmations,” he said on RPP from Piura, where he arrived to inspect the Talara Refinery.

As already reported, one of the candidates being considered by the Executive at the request of President Dina Boluarte is the former head of the oil company, Alejandro Narváez. Boluarte’s candidate, who is anti-mining, has maintained that Oliver Stark’s board of directors has exaggerated the problem of the state-owned company, despite the fact that the debt exceeds US$8.5 billion.

One of the people who could arrive with Narváez is the former Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons during Pedro Castillo’s administration, Enrique Bisetti, who was questioned for having been an advisor to the former general manager of Petroperú, Hugo Chávez, investigated for alleged criminal organization.

Bisetti has already met with President Dina Boluarte in a meeting in which the former Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera, and the former president of the public company, Pedro Chira, also participated.

Also on the possible list is former Perupetro president Isabel Tafur. She was questioned at the time for awarding lots to Petroperú. In addition, according to a sworn statement she submitted, she provided legal advice to Brunner Consultores & Servicios SAC, a company linked at the time to President Pedro Castillo’s nephew, Fray Vásquez Castillo.

Regarding the names being mentioned, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Arturo Vásquez, stated that there are no “suitable professionals” willing to accept the position of director of Petroperú due to the lack of trust that exists in the names mentioned so far.

“There is an institutional problem, a weakness because the Government has no credibility. Furthermore, Mr. Narváez does not have the moral character to be president of this company,” he said.

He also indicated that as long as there is no board of directors, the Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) in charge of initiating the restructuring process cannot be elected.

“I imagine that the financial aid from the Government must already be being implemented, because the general management can see that, since the company cannot stop, but the restructuring cannot move forward,” he said.
