The president of the Codicen, Robert Silva asked the PIT-CNT to “review” the general strike scheduled for next March 8 so as not to affect the return to classes of more than 250,000 students.
The union central called for a general strike on International Women’s Day, in defense of the rights of working women. When the measure was announced, there was no lack of questioning of this call, and the PIT-CNT retracted its decision to accompany the day with campaign activities in favor of the repeal of 135 articles of the law of urgent consideration (LUC).
March 8 is the scheduled date for the return to classes of the second and third year of the basic cycle and UTU, as well as the fifth, sixth of high school and the upper secondary education courses of UTU.
“We cannot affect the first day of classes for more than 250 thousand students”Silva told Telemundo. He announced that the Codicen will meet with the union coordinator of Uruguay next Thursday to generate a dialogue whose axis is “not to affect education.”
The plan for 2022, seen as a post-pandemic year, includes a “strong commitment to attendance” by Codicen.
