Venezuela denounces that the UN ignores reports of assassination

The Venezuelan ambassador to the UN-Geneva, Alexander Yánez, gave a speech speech in defense of the country before the UN Human Rights Council, where he said that the credibility of the United Nations system is being questioned by the world and that the officials of this organization are more concerned about those who appoint them than about their obligations.

The exhibition of Yánez, in the same spirit of the release The report issued by the Venezuelan government early this Friday rejects a report presented by the failed and former Lima Group, which it described as “vulgar and false” and which is only presented in “compliance with Washington’s orders, to promote the change of the legitimate government of Venezuela.”

In this regard, he said that on numerous occasions “the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela has been systematically attacked; we have repeatedly denounced before this Council and before the UN bureaucracy with sufficient evidence the assassination attempts against the president and other high-ranking officials of the country (…) All these complaints are ignored or made invisible by the hypocrisy of this system.”

He regretted that years after the “irregular imposition” of the failed Lima Group, “this Council continues to listen to buffoonish reports from political agents,” which “leaves much to be desired and is an example of the erratic drift of this institution of the United Nations System.”

Yanez criticized the fact that the United Nations officials who have received the Venezuelan complaints, “seem more concerned about those who appoint them to their positions than with fulfilling the mandate that we, the States, have given them, thus promoting that the victims are treated as victimizers and the victimizers as victims.”

He said that the Western powers “insist on turning this Council into an instrument of coercion and blackmail against the sovereign peoples and governments of the South,” and gave as an example that the report presented by this group of satellite countries of the United States, “seeks to impose on the United Nations the narrative of the Venezuelan fascist right, from which this irritating mission is inspired,” he said in relation to the document presented.

Yanez urged the United Nations authorities to stop the spread of fascism and pointed out that it is a new pandemic “that is spreading under the protection of the United States and the European Union. We must denounce this dangerous reality and act immediately against it. We cannot validate or allow the complicity between internal and external fascists, violators of the rights of peoples and deniers of democratic institutions. We demand an urgent rectification to steer the institution back towards the principles that motivated its creation.”
