Maduro warned the UN about hiring mercenaries to invade the country

Through a statement released by the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, it was reported that the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, spoke by telephone with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, and warned him about attempts at external aggression, through the hiring of mercenaries to invade the country and carry out assassination attempts.

The Head of State also pointed out that, through social networks, the collection of funds for carrying out attacks against Venezuelan institutions has even been promoted.

For his part, the UN Secretary General stated that “the United Nations has shown itself to be opposed to the application of the policy of regime change anywhere in the world, as well as any action of intervention in internal affairs that affects the sovereignty and self-determination of nations.”

The statement said that both dignitaries agreed to support the consultations with different political, social and economic sectors promoted by the Bolivarian Government, while agreeing to maintain communication at the highest level.

The full text of the statement is below.

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, held today a friendly and fraternal conversation, via telephone, with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in which they addressed the global political situation, especially that of Venezuela, after the attempts at destabilization and conspiracies promoted from United States territory, with the complacency of its government, flagrantly violating international law and the United Nations Charter, supported by Latin American and European far-right extremism, which, fortunately, have been contained and neutralized thanks to the action of Venezuelan democratic institutions.

President Nicolás Maduro has reiterated the content of the letter sent to the Secretary General in his office a few days ago, detailing the attacks against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its institutions, which included attempts on people’s lives and attacks on government and private public service facilities that resulted in a regrettable death toll of 27 people, after an attempt was made to ignore the election results of July 28.

The Venezuelan president also warned of attempts at external aggression, through the hiring of mercenaries to invade the country and assassination attempts, who publicly threaten national stability through the use of social networks, in which they even promote the collection of funds to carry out attacks against institutions.

Secretary-General Guterres said that the United Nations has shown its opposition to the implementation of the policy of regime change anywhere in the world, as well as any action of intervention in internal affairs that affects the sovereignty and self-determination of nations, advocating for the promotion of dialogue among Venezuelans, under the protection of constitutional institutions.

Both dignitaries agreed to support the consultations with different political, social and economic sectors promoted by the Bolivarian Government, looking towards the future and dispelling any threat of destabilization in Venezuela.

Finally, they agreed to maintain communication at the highest level between Venezuela and the UN General Secretariat, which must address the major challenges facing the organization in an increasingly complex global scenario in terms of security and development.
