In response to criticism from the Nationalist candidate for vice-president, Valeria Ripoll, who pointed out that the 48 measures presented by the pre-candidate Yamandú Orsi did not mention disability, MPP deputy Bettiana Díaz maintained that this issue is present in the Frente Amplio program in a “transversal” way and not in specific measures.
“They are all there, not as specific measures, but as transversal measures,” said Díaz, who criticized Ripoll by pointing out that “he doesn’t read, he doesn’t know how to read or he lies.” In addition, the legislator said that the Frente Amplio program, published in December, mentions disability on many occasions. “Today you can filter it in the PDF, it’s very fast,” she said.
Díaz stressed that disability is addressed in a comprehensive manner within the program, considering thematic axes such as work and care. “We must not only look at the problem of disability from a single perspective,” he said, defending the party’s proposals.
Asked whether Ripoll does not read or is lying, Díaz concluded firmly: “I think he is lying.”
According to the analysis of electoral programmes carried out by the website Politea, these are six mentions of the word “disability” in the Frente Amplio programme:
- Expanding care coverage: “Expand coverage of care for people who require care – assistance, attention and support – due to disability and old age…”
- Public policies: «In the case of disability, strengthen targeted public policies with strong articulation with universal policies with an intersectoral and interdisciplinary approach…»
- Employment programs: “The programs established within the framework of active employment policies will seek to reduce the vulnerability of young people, people over 45 years of age or with disabilities…”
- Employment incentives: «Companies that hire young workers over 45 years of age or with disabilities within the framework of the Programs established in this law will obtain subsidies…».
- Subsidies for employers: “The Ministry of Labor and Social Security is hereby authorized to grant a temporary employment subsidy to private employers who hire people with disabilities as new workers…”
- Promoting inclusion: «The Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training… will promote the labor insertion of young workers over 45 years of age and workers with disabilities…».
