The Fires continue to ravage nature and putting at risk the habitat of wild species, many of which are in danger of extinction. This panorama is experienced in the Ambue-Ari Park reserve, located in Ascensión de Guarayos, on the route to Trinidad.

For five days, the hill where the forest reserve is located has been slowly consumed by fire. Volunteers and soldiers have been fighting the fires, trying to save the area where they live near 100 species of wild animals, several of them in danger of extinction.

“A hill inside the park is burning, The flames rise up to five meters. The area is difficult to access; however, overcoming all obstacles, every day and sometimes even at night, they arrive. soldiers and volunteers to put out the flames; the fire is getting closer to where the animals are taking refuge,” said Julio César Cagua, commander of the Fundar group.

At 6:00 a.m. this Thursday, Julio César and his fellow firefighters left the fire zone and traveled the 50 kilometers to the town to relieve the crew.

He explained that so far They haven’t found a single dead animal by fire, although Everyone is affected by the smoke and the extreme heat that comes from the hill.

Yasmina Mustafá, head of the Monitoring Unit of the Municipal Government of Ascensión, indicated that on Wednesday they were expecting the arrival of water discharges by air, but the help did not arrive, but they hope that it will occur this day.

He explained that, from September 5th to date, have burned 260 thousand hectares between mountains, crop fields and grazing, only in the municipality of Ascensión de Guarayos.

“Although the number of hot spots has decreased, from 4,000 to 238, this does not get us out of the emergencybecause several fires are active, such as the hill in the Ambue-Ari park and the Urubichá hill, the latter located 10 kilometers from Ascensión, whose smoke is what is reaching the town,” he explained.
