The nephew of the next Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, Sebastián Ebrard Lestrade, assumed office yesterday as a federal deputy for Morena, after the head of the formula, Vidal Llerenas Morales, requested leave to join as undersecretary in that department.
Llerenas Morales is a former mayor of Azcapotzalco and is married to Rosemary Safie Samour, who runs a lobbying firm that has registered with the chamber to represent the interests of the tobacco and sugary drink industries.
Ebrard Lestrade is the son of Alberto Fernando Ebrard, who died in 2010 and was executive vice president and director of Walmart Mexico.
During the session, José Narro Céspedes was also sworn in as a deputy, after the head of the ticket, Jorge Mendoza Sánchez, requested leave.
Vania Roxana Ávila García, substitute for Claudia Ruiz Massieu, who requested leave, also took office as a deputy for the Citizen Movement.
The plenary approved the appointment of Mauricio Farah as general secretary.
