Former player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, remains at the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo to continue treatment for a colon tumor. According to a note signed by the doctors who accompany him, released this Monday (21), routine exams detected a urinary infection, which prolonged the stay of the King of Football, in the hospital since last February 13.
“His clinical conditions are stable, and hospital discharge should take place in the next few days”, concludes the note, signed by geriatrician and endocrinologist Fabio Nasri, by oncologist Rene Gansl and by the director-superintendent of Medical and Hospital Services at Albert Einstein, Miguel Cendoroglo Grandson.
Pele underwent surgery to remove the colon tumor in September. He was hospitalized for almost a month at the time, staying part of the period in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is expected to return at least once a month to the hospital to continue treatment.
Pele’s last demonstration on social media was on Sunday (20), when he congratulated the Saudi Arabian football federation for the first official game of the country’s women’s team. The day before, on Saturday (19), he recalled the time he played in the United States, posting a photo in which he played with an oval American football.
