The Senate’s approval of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation will have consequences for the country’s economy, the Mexican Employers’ Confederation (Coparmex) warned this week.
“Far from improving and ensuring the independence of the judiciary, this reform places it in a situation of extreme vulnerability in the face of political and economic interests,” the business organization said.
Coparmex said that uncertainty is already present in local and foreign companies, which have expressed their concern about the politicization of the selection of judges, as it can weaken the rule of law.
“This would also affect key projects for our economy and, therefore, for the well-being of all Mexicans,” he said.
