Santo Domingo. Senator for the province Santiago Rodríguez denounced this Wednesday that people, whom he defined as “assailants,” are seeking to evict families who have been on their land for up to 200 years.
Antonio Marte said that “the attackers” have presented false titles in an attempt to seize the land occupied by the peasants.
“These groups want to evict people who have lived there their whole lives. There are more than a thousand people in these places and now some assailants have appeared who have obtained false titles to land inhabited by families who have lived there for 200 years,” he said.
The legislator also took advantage of his speaking time to ask President Luis Abinader to order the construction of the San Juan-Santiago Rodríguez highway, which would be 22 kilometers long.
He said that this project would contribute to the development of the south, since this region “would be linked to the Cibao and would save time and money.”
The congressman also referred to illegal betting banks spread throughout the country.
“Betting shops have the problem of unfair competition, because there is one on every corner. It is as if we were living like lawless goats. We are going to lose about 300 thousand jobs in that sector,” warned the congressman.
He recalled that the country has no way to replace this source of employment, and therefore called for a solution to the problem.
