The Minister of Communication of Venezuela, Freddy Ñáñez, said the government plans to monitor social media during the pre-election campaign (October 28 to November 18) to avoid the spread of false news and content that may affect the campaign.
Ñáñez said that they considered creating a surveillance team focused on the control of networks of candidates, parties and organizations but it was not explained which networks will be monitored or which content can be considered objectionable.
“Guarantee freedom of thought it is much more complex than simply giving voice and visibility to the different proposals (…) it also has a lot to do with truthfulness and the opportunity for this to truly come to the Venezuelan people”Said the Minister.
At the moment it has been confirmed that the regional and local elections of November 21 will be elected 3,082 total charges, distributed in 23 governors, 335 mayors, 253 legislators to the Legislative Councils and 2,471 councilors.
