“It wasn’t me”: Simonovis backtracked on his participation in “Ya casi Venezuela”

The fugitive from Venezuelan justice, former commissioner Iván Simonovis, distanced himself on his social networks from being part of those who are in the initiative “Almost Venezuela”proposed by American war businessman Erik Prince to overthrow the legitimate government of Nicolás Maduro.

The man accused of crimes against humanity distanced himself from the initiative proposed by Prince and said that he had nothing to do with the collection of money to finance, in unclear ways, the hasty departure of the revolutionary government.

“I am just another spectator in this initiative,” said Simonovis, clarifying that he has been asked about his involvement in the idea spread by Prince, thereby distancing himself from the statements he himself made a few days ago, in which he appears as the spokesman for the seditious movement.

“Like many Venezuelans who only want freedom for their country, I decided to record this video that was published,” said the fugitive, while inviting the opposition to decide whether or not to make a financial contribution to the accounts of the American businessman who has promised to overthrow Maduro.

“I am not the leader of this initiative. The leader of this initiative is Mr. Erik Prince. Look for him, investigate him,” the former police officer recommended, distancing himself from what appears to be a new scam by sectors of the national and international right.

Prince is the owner of the company ‘Academi’, dedicated to the sale of military supplies (previously known as ‘Blackwater’). He said on his social networks that since Monday, September 16, his accounts will be receiving donations in cryptocurrencies and in dollars, to finance what he has called the “fight for freedom in Venezuela.”

Erik Prince has been an influential figure in private security, especially through Blackwater, his company that became famous for its involvement in the Iraq War and the Baghdad massacre incident in 2007, which resulted in the deaths of 17 civilians.

Simonovis invited those interested in collaborating with the overthrow of the government to place their contribution in dollars on the American businessman’s website.
