Today, the official construction of the underground section of Line 3 of the Panama Metro began. This key milestone in the execution of this great project begins with the work of the “Panama” Tunnel Boring Machine, which will excavate and line 4.5 kilometers, crossing under the navigation channel of the Panama Canal.
According to the Panama Metro, after completing inspections, routine tests and verifications, they began excavation and lining of the tunnel, a process that will take around 22 months.
Authorities estimate that in approximately 14 months, after the start of operations of the tunnel boring machine, it will reach Balboa as its first point, an area close to the port, where routine maintenance will be carried out. It will then continue its excavation for an additional 1.5 km, until reaching an area close to the Albrook station, where the exit shaft will be located.
President of the Republic José Raúl Mulino, who started the tunnel boring machine, said that this work brings the construction of the Panama-David train closer.
“We are going to take advantage of it to build that train anyway,” said the president, assuring that this work will connect the lives of all Panamanians.
