The Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Valery Mitskevich, today received the General Director of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), from Cuba, Ana Teresa Igarza.
Sergei Klishevich, president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, other deputies members of said group, as well as the Cuban ambassador in Minsk, Juan Valdés, and members of the ZEDM delegation also participated in the meeting.
After delving into the entity’s potential for future Belarusian investments on the island, Mitskevich recalled his visit to Havana, his meetings with the presidency of the legislature, the government and with the directors of the Mariel Zone.
He highlighted the good state of political and parliamentary relations between the two countries and drew attention to the importance of promoting economic ties, product exchanges and increasing production. “Today we are talking about it,” she said.
In his opinion there are enough points of mutual growth in the links. We will negotiate on the organization of joint ventures both in the Mariel economic zone and in the territory of Belarus, he noted.
He added that in the face of the prolonged US blockade against Cuba and the external sanctions that Belarus faces, both countries have to join efforts to avoid pressures and promote economic development for the well-being of their peoples.
During his visit to Belarus, Igarza toured important industrial and productive centers with the aim of promoting bilateral ties through investments in Cuba, including companies that produce electric buses, MAZ trucks and Belarusian tractors.
He also visited production plants for agricultural implements, refrigeration equipment, kitchens, and derivatives from the dairy and agri-food industries.
During the tour, the development of relations with the Chinese-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone was highlighted. In addition, the delegation held meetings and presented the potential of the ZEDM to the Ministry of Industries of Belarus and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of this country.
