Due to the violence that has occurred in recent days in the country, national celebrations have been cancelled in almost 30 municipalities in seven states of Mexico: 12 municipalities in Chiapas, six in Sinaloa, six in Nuevo León, two in Durango and one each in Michoacán, Guanajuato and Oaxaca.
In Sinaloa, the decision was made after the attacks and clashes recorded in Culiacán, Cosalá, Elota and San Ignacio, as well as the arrest in the United States of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, who was one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Just this Monday, at the end of the civic-military parade to commemorate the 214th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence, which was witnessed from the balcony of the Municipal Palace of Culiacán by Governor Rubén Rocha, as well as by representatives of the other Powers of the State and also by the military commanders, a press conference was offered led by the commander of the Third Military Region, Major General Francisco Jesús Leana Ojeda, the highest military authority in the entity.
He reported that since September 9, 29 violent events have been recorded in various parts of the state. In 13 of these, attacks against military personnel and the National Guard have been reported, resulting in the deaths of two members of the Mexican Army and four other civilians.
He also detailed that, as a result of these clashes, 27 civilians have been arrested and three people who were deprived of their liberty by criminal groups have been released; in terms of material, 101 long weapons and 19 short weapons have been seized, more than 25,000 cartridges of different calibers and 57 vehicles, including 12 armored trucks and a cloned police patrol car, in addition to various tactical equipment and explosive devices.
It is estimated that the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will end with almost 200,000 intentional homicides, an average of 92 Mexicans killed per day, making it the most violent six-year term in the entire history of Mexico.
