Celso Marranzini: «Customers often feel mistreated and they are absolutely right»

Celso Marranzini: «Los clientes muchas veces se sienten maltratados y tienen toda la razón del mundo»

The president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), Celso Marranzini, said on Tuesday that the clients of the various EDES “feel mistreated and they are absolutely right.”

He noted that despite paying for the service, users face poor treatment.

«On top of paying they receive abuse“, he said.

Marranzini also announced a technological modernisation plan for electricity distributors, with the aim of facilitating interaction between customers and companies.

«We need to modernize all that, have technologies “where the account statement can be sent to the client by cell phone. We are going to set up payment points similar to ATMs right now, where users can check their balance, pay in cash or by card, and pay the bill,” he explained.

Regarding electricity meters, he stressed that a large part of the devices of the Southern Electricity Distribution Company (EdeSur) are remotely measured, which facilitates collection and billing.

“That should not be eliminated, but rather increased,” he commented.

He also mentioned that they have acquired 600,000 new accountants for the three distributors, which reinforces the commitment to improve the service. However, he pointed out that there are still challenges, such as the fact that around 800,000 people receive electricity without being registered as customers, which makes correct billing and collection difficult.

Another aspect he mentioned was the idea of connecting the Caribbean islands to energy via an underwater cable, similar to the one that exists in Central America.

“We could take advantage of the surplus energy from other islands and create an interconnected system. It is a future project, but a very interesting one,” Marranzini said.

He also defended the use of the nuclear power as a safe and viable option for the country.

“It is a job for the future, it is a job that takes time, but it can be very interesting, and here, as for nuclear energy, people are afraid of nuclear energy, but nuclear energy is extremely safe,” he concluded.

These statements were offered during an interview on Telenoticias.
