The government proposed Alejandro Narváez as president of Petroperú

Alejandro Narváez

Economy Minister José Arista announced today that three directors of the Petroperú board of directors resigned would be willing to stay in the company. Which he considered positive because they had worked on the plan to restructure the oil company.

However, sources of Peru21they said that they had already declined to stay. This after they were told that the new president of the oil company would be Alejandro Narváez, former president of the state company during the period 2003-2005, as indicated by Peru21.

According to sources, the decision of these three executives to resign is due to the fact that Narváez is not clear about the company’s problems, as well as his recent statements to the press, in which he ranted against Oliver Stark’s board of directors.

According to Narváez, Stark’s board of directors has worsened Petroperú’s situation by increasing its losses. He indicated in an interview with RPP that the oil company’s situation is due to the current recession, as well as the impact of COVID-19. He argued that he is aware that other companies in the country are going through a similar situation.

Narváez even referred to the restructuring plan of the consulting firm Arthur D. Little, stating that its conclusions are wrong.

Narváez said he did not agree with the restructuring of Petroperú or the hiring of an international manager (PMO), because there are experts with better knowledge in business management in the country.

For this reason, according to sources, the three directors who were willing to stay declined.

Alejandro Narváez participated in the last elections as number 1 on Verónika Mendoza’s list for Congress. His ideological tendency has led him to say that “the true contribution of mining is a mockery.” This raises the question of whether the Minister of Economy, José Arista, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, whose portfolios are the shareholders of the oil company, think the same.
