Motorcyclists cause road accidents in Táchira

Last weekend, road accidents involving motorcyclists once again accounted for the largest number of incidents in Táchira state.

This was stated by Yesnardo Canal, director of Civil Protection, who added that “despite the deployment that has been carried out at night by security and prevention agencies, road accidents continue, where unfortunately the greatest incidence is with motor vehicles.”

Canal indicated that 28 traffic accidents were reported in the last week, 23 of which involved motorcycles, during nighttime hours.

“Among these road accidents, we have a person run over by a motorcycle-type vehicle on Trunk Road 5, leaving a 23-year-old man dead and the driver injured.”

To date, 1,093 road accidents have been recorded so far this year 2024. The figures reflect 47 deaths.

Call to cyclists

Canal called on cyclists to obey and respect traffic regulations. “We have seen cyclists riding against traffic, not respecting traffic lights on the main roads, as there have been cases involving cyclists in improper maneuvers.”

The director of the emergency agency clarified that not all of them are involved, and asked the organizations where cyclists gather during the day and at night to respect the laws of land traffic.

High temperatures

Regarding the high temperatures that have been recorded in some municipalities of Táchira, Canal explained that, despite the fact that we are in the rainy season, which ends in November, high temperatures have been recorded.

“The climatic variation, as has been reported, has been latent and the rainfall that was projected has not yet materialized, very scarce rainfall. In some very specific municipalities high temperatures have been recorded, mainly in the border area,” Canal indicated.

The highest temperature recorded recently was 38.3° Celsius in the Pedro María Ureña y Bolívar municipality.

Together with the fire department of San Cristóbal and other municipalities, several vegetation fires have been dealt with, most of the 14 having been caused by firefighters.
