Peruvian minister willing to resign by ratifying complaint

I am not going to back down to stay in office, he said when ratifying his complaint against the conservative incumbent of the Legislative, María del Carmen Alva, for constitutional violation.

According to Chávez, Alva committed the infraction by coordinating with right-wing legislators legal changes under his own name -which is illegal- to vacate (remove) President Pedro Castillo.

He indicated that if his position bothered the Executive, “I have no problem” in resigning, despite the fact that it was ratified in the Labor office in two magisterial renewals in recent weeks.

The withdrawal of the complaints and the possible congressional ratification of the new ministerial cabinet, next March 8, are foreseen in the truce announced by Alva and the spokesman for the ruling party caucus, Peru Libre, Waldemar Cerrón.

After the agreement, the prime minister, Aníbal Torres, apologized for accusing Alva and the hard-line opposition legislators of plotting to carry out a parliamentary coup and assumed that Minister Chávez would talk and withdraw the complaint.

The head of Labor said that she will not withdraw the accusation even if Pope Francis requests it and maintains the same position against the complaint made against the far-right legislator Patricia Chirinos, who in a political forum in the United States asked for help against what she called a communist government. from Peru.

Chávez indicated that for months he has been exhorting the opposition to abandon radical attitudes against the government and assume a position of consensus and contribution to governability, but his preaching was rejected and no one can now question it for not withdrawing the accusation against Alva.

The agreed political truce also faces criticism or disbelief in broad sectors, including the Peru Libre caucus, which questioned the agreement and agreed with Chavez in refusing to rescind a constitutional complaint and a motion of censure against Alva as president of the Congress.
