The National Electoral Council, amid tensions with President Gustavo Petro, decided to postpone voting on the proposal seeking to bring charges against the current president’s presidential campaign for apparent violation of limits.
Despite the fact that the investigating magistrates considered the evidence of a violation of more than 5.3 billion pesos and the legal protection of the measure, this vote will be postponed for two weeks.
As EL TIEMPO anticipated, magistrate Alba Lucía Velásquez, of the Pacto Histórico, was incapacitated and has not officially seen the file, which was released by the same newspaper since May.
Thus, in a session that began at 11:00 am, it was agreed to rotate the file and call a new plenary session in two weeks for a vote.
Later in the morning, the CNE magistrates accepted the pending notification of the ruling regarding the permanence of magistrate Altus Alejandro Baquero in said state corporation. Initially, his election was annulled by the Council of State, but the Constitutional Court ordered his reinstatement.
In addition, Hector Carvajal, the head of state’s representative before the CNE, filed an appeal for annulment and/or clarification regarding the decision of the Council of State on August 6. According to the high court, both the CNE and the House Accusations Commission are legally authorized to investigate the matter within their jurisdiction.
