They are being thrown a lifeline by Parliament. The congresswoman of the Magisterial Bloc, Katy Ugarte, will present today, in the Education Commission, a bill so that 12 associative universities with denied licenses – among them, the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and José Carlos Mariátegui (JCM) universities – can have a new licensing period of two years, so that, in case they get the green light, they can open their doors again for teaching.

Congresswoman of Peru Libre, Kelly Portalatino, assured Peru21 that his parliamentary group will support this bill.

According to the proposal, Sunedu will have three months to dictate measures so that these educational institutions “manage a new license with the basic quality conditions.”

The congressman of Popular Renewal, Esdras Medina, told Peru21 Bills could soon be presented so that 27 corporate universities, which Sunedu also denied a license, such as Alas Peruanas and Telesup, would also benefit from this same measure.

For the former Minister of Education, Juan Cadillo, this is a danger because “there is a risk that students will receive insufficient training” because these universities did not meet the requirements established at the time.
