Pro Consumer opens new office in Maria Trinidad Sanchez

Pro Consumidor inaugura nueva oficina en la María Trinidad Sánchez

NAGUA, María Trinidad Sánchez.- The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, inaugurated a new office in this city that will allow for further strengthening the defense of consumers.

Alcántara, who gave the inaugural speech in the presence of local authorities, explained that this new office will allow residents of this province who understand that their rights as consumers have been violated to make any type of claim or complaint in person.

“We are opening an office in this city that will address issues that touch on sensitive interests regarding people’s health, safety and economic interests. However, the citizens of this district must be assured that those who lead it will act with honesty and transparency in the proper management of public affairs,” he said.

He also said that both transparency and good service are fundamental aspects in public administration, as demonstrated by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and that he, as a public official, has always emulated and is the legacy he will leave.

In this regard, he said that Pro Consumidor is an entity that is notified every month by the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity with 100% in the good management of open data, public resources, transparency and that has been recognized by its peers internationally.

Alcántara also said that since his arrival at the entity, part of his actions have been directed to opening offices in different provinces of the country, “so that citizens can express their complaints and claims, and we can defend the interests of the Dominican people.”

He said that of the 13 offices he found when he took office, nine were non-functional and are now operating at full capacity, “in addition, ten new facilities have been opened in different parts of the country to facilitate access to all citizens who wish to seek our services.”

He mentioned that the offices that have been opened during his administration are located in Punta Cana, La Altagracia; Puerto Plata, La Vega and now in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez, as well as eight in the facilities of the Government Office of Technologies (Punto GOB).

“We are gradually achieving what we promised, and the goal is for each province to have a Pro Consumidor extension,” he said.

The head of the entity stated that work will continue to be done to prevent the abuses that consumers are often subjected to in the goods and services market.

The new office is located in Plaza Hernández, on Altagracia Street,

entrance to Las Quinientas, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The ceremony, blessed by Father Hipólito de la Cruz, was attended by Karen Acosta, representing the provincial governor, María López Polanco, as well as the local mayor’s office, the National Police, the Army, DIGESETT and others.
