SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Four Cuban students who competed in the XVII Ibero-American Biology Olympiadheld in Havana from September 8 to 13, won medals, including three gold.
For the second consecutive year, students from Cuba took first place in the Ibero-American Biology Olympiad (OIAB), an annual competition for pre-university students from Ibero-American countries, according to the Ministry of Education’s social media accounts.
The young Christian Dario Blanco Hernandez, from the Federico Engels Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE); Elio M. Rodriguez Rivero, from the Ernesto Guevara IPVCE and Cristian A. Barrero Hernandez, from the Antonio Maceo IPVCE, they obtained gold medal.
Meanwhile, Analis Ramírez Castillo, from IPVCE Eusebio Oliveira, deserved the silver medal.

At this event, the participating countries had a delegation made up of a maximum of four students, who had to be in high school or have finished high school and not be in university. They were accompanied at the competition by two teachers, who acted as head of the delegation (leader and co-leader) and formed part of the jury.
The delegations’ stay in Havana was covered by the Cuban Ministry of Education in terms of accommodation, food and transportation within the city, according to the event’s website.
Registration for Participants international had a value of 40 dollars for each participant.
The closing ceremony, which took place on Friday night, included a dinner and a show at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba.
