Washington. US President Joe Biden on Friday denounced the attacks that the Haitian community in the country is suffering following accusations against them by former President Donald Trump, and called on him to stop them.
“The Haitian-American community is under attack in our country right now. It’s wrong. There is no place for that in America. What you’re doing has to stop, it has to stop!” he said, without directly citing his predecessor.
Biden spoke at the White House at the start of an event aimed at commemorating the excellence of the African-American community in the country. His speech was preceded by that of presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, of Haitian origin.
Trump (2017-2021), Republican candidate in the November 5 elections, has been spreading the lie for days that Haitians eat the cats and dogs of citizens in their places of residence.
The Republican tycoon has insisted on this unsubstantiated rhetoric at campaign rallies and even in the debate last Tuesday against the US vice president and Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris.
“Many cities don’t want to talk about it because they are ashamed. In Springfield (Ohio) the people who came are eating the dogs, they are eating the cats, they are eating the pets of the people who live there and this is what is happening in our country and it is a disgrace,” he said in that electoral face-to-face. This Thursday, at a rally in Tucson (Arizona), he added that they even ate the geese in the lakes of the parks.
The White House had already expressed concern about the danger that the dissemination of such false news by the former president and other radical Republicans could pose to migrant communities such as the Haitian one.
