No more dogs without tails and ears

Parliament has approved a law banning cosmetic surgery on animals, primarily dogs and cats, which are the most frequently subjected to such practices.

The law has two articles. The first states that “non-therapeutic surgical acts or practices performed on domestic animals, especially dogs and cats, with the sole purpose of modifying their physical appearance or behaviour, and consisting of totally or partially mutilating the tail or ears, cutting the vocal cords or removing nails, phalanges or teeth are prohibited.”

Article 2 indicates that sanctions will be applied to those who fail to comply, ranging from 500 readjustable units to the removal of the pet.

Colorado deputy Juan Moreno was one of the promoters of the new law.
