SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Filmmaker and actor Jorge Molina Enríquez, who played Hector in the soap opera Be reborn -which he also co-directed-, recently gave an interview for Cuba Today’s YouTube channelwhere he expressed his testimony about this Cuban production, also permeated by the country’s systemic crisis.
Molina He said that to film it he needed “total commitment from all members of the team, real commitment,” but he said he didn’t have it.
“But I think the issue is first the passion. Put passion into what you do. Want to do it well. That was what we wanted from the beginning. The novel could have clearly been much better,” he emphasized.
In the conversation with actor David Reys, the director described the production method as awful and alluded to several of the complaints from his team members: “I heard people on my team say to me… ‘No, but they pay rubbish. I don’t know, Molina, why you are trying so hard to direct actors and what we are doing is going nowhere.’ When you have people like that on your team it is very sad.”
Molina considered it a “titanic effort” to make an audiovisual with the “terrible” production conditions in this country.
In this regard, the popular actor and director said that it was becoming “an almost impossible mission”, so ICRT officials should consider the forms of production on the Island, when the budget is minimal and forces them to be constantly looking for alternatives.
The working conditions for him and other actors and filmmakers are so difficult that they have led them to consider stopping everything.
The quality of productions is also affected by the human factor, which is not immune to the migration crisis. Technicians, actors and directors who emigrate create a situation that threatens creations.
“Everyone leaves. Everyone flees. And then, of course, you have to hire less qualified people. And all of that affects the outcome of the product,” he said.
Although he considered it a good experience, the process of the soap opera was full of setbacks that have made the audiovisual director reflect.
“Reality hits you and hits you and knocks you around. And you say, how can it be? How can it be. But that’s how it all turned out. If we’re talking here and now it’s because the soap opera is playing and I think that’s what’s important, what happened or didn’t happen,” he continued.
Be reborn
With a total of 90 chapters, written by Yoel Monzón and directed by Heiking Hernández, co-directed by Jorge Molina and general production by Legna Pérez Cruzata, it began airing in June.
The filming of the cuban soap opera officially began on September 25, led by the Production House.
Alejandro Cuervo, Raquel Rey, Giselle Sobrino, Andros Perugorría, Eilen Acosta, Daniela Valdés, were some of the actors in the cast. The plot revolves around the character of Aitana, who runs away, distressed by Luis Manuel’s jealousy and prohibitions.
In his departure, he leaves behind his son Dariel, whom he intends to take with him later.
According to exposed the scriptwriter, the title is due to the fact that the protagonist has to be reborn, for Jorge Molina, the soap opera is a kind of Cinderella- “Her goal is to be reborn as a woman, as a mother and even as a human being. This is necessary because she had to break away from the life she was leading and which was suffocating her. She makes this decision at a critical and unique moment, and she faces and accepts it with total courage, despite all the difficulties.”
