The death of the former president Alberto Fujimori has generated a wave of reactions among both his supporters and his detractors, who have recalled that the late former president was sentenced for crimes against humanity, as well as for corruption.

The congresswoman Sigrid Bazan She was quick to comment on the death of the former president, whom she described as a “dictator, murderer and corrupt.” Through her social network X, the legislator questioned why Fujimori did not pay civil compensation.
“He left without paying a single sol in civil reparations, without asking for forgiveness and free thanks to an illegal pardon. His legacy of corruption, human rights violations and authoritarianism will not be erased with his death.”said the parliamentarian
The leader of the New Peru movement, Veronika Mendozaalso spoke out critically against the late former president, whom he accused of having established a sell-out, corrupt and violent regime.
The statements of both politicians about Alberto Fujimori contrast markedly with the praise they gave after the death of the former Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, who staged a coup in 1959 and is credited with the murder of hundreds of opponents, as well as their imprisonment.
Following Castro’s death in 2016, Sigrid Bazán, who was not yet a member of Congress, said that the former dictator “will go down in history.”
“Fidel Castro has not died. He remains in history. How an island confronted the United States for almost 60 years”he said through his X account.
Former congresswoman Verónika Mendoza praised the late dictator, who remained the ruler of Cuba for more than 50 years and later handed over the position to his brother. When referring to Castro, Mendoza did not attribute any crimes to him, but indicated that he leaves a legacy with “lights and shadows.”
“A man who restored dignity to a people, who made a homeland out of what was a colony. A man who fought tirelessly for social justice, to bring health and education to all his people, in the midst of his own mistakes and external aggressions – such as that pernicious and absurd embargo. A man whose legacy, with lights and shadows, challenges us today…”, he said on his Facebook account.
According to the organization Archivo Cuba, between 1959 and 2008, more than 6,000 people were executed by Fidel Castro’s regime. According to Forbes magazine, the former Cuban dictator managed to accumulate a fortune of more than US$ 900 million.
