Cuba rejects new coercive measures against Venezuelan officials

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has rejected the imposition of new unilateral coercive measures (UCM) against Venezuela by the US government.

The president expressed this on Thursday on his X account, where he demanded the complete lifting of the restrictions imposed on the South American country.

“Imperialism is trying to impose itself on the sovereignty of other countries, but the homeland of Bolívar will triumph,” he said.

Earlier, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also condemned the new round of MCU imposed by the United States (US) on several Venezuelan state officials.

On the same social network, he demanded that “this type of action that only seeks to destabilize the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution be stopped.”

At noon on Thursday, the US Treasury Department imposed personal sanctions on 16 senior public officials of the Supreme Court of Justice, the National Electoral Council, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the country’s intelligence agencies, in response to the neutralization of violent and coup plans, as well as the failure to recognize the election results promoted by extremist sectors of the opposition.

Minutes later, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which he rejected, in the strongest terms, the aggression committed by the government of the United States of America against our country by imposing new unilateral, illegitimate and illegal coercive measures.

“The so-called ‘sanctions’, which have been shamefully promoted by the fascist far right, break and violate the agreements signed in Qatar and seek to impose on an entire country and its institutions the policies of ‘regime change’ as part of the Monroe Doctrine,” the official statement said.
