US authorities issue travel warning to Sinaloa due to violence

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Sinaloa reported that it has received 16 complaints of vehicle theft and 14 complaints of deprivation of personal liberty.

There are also records of nine men killed in the municipalities of Culiacán and Eldorado, as well as in the Costa Rican Municipality, and eight people injured by gunshots.

Of the victims, six have already been identified and handed over to their families and three are unidentified. Their bodies were found on Boulevard Agricultores in the Villa Satélite subdivision, in addition to the 16 de septiembre neighborhood, in the City of Culiacán, and on Mexico 15 Highway to the South, in the State of Costa Rica.

The authorities indicated that these acts of violence occurred between Monday, September 9 and Thursday, September 12.

This morning, the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha, confirmed the suspension of classes in some municipalities of the state due to the wave of violence between organized crime groups.

“I inform the people of Sinaloa that school activities are suspended in the municipalities of Culiacán, Elota, Cosalá and San Ignacio, today, September 12, 2024, at all educational levels and modalities,” the president announced on his X account.

These are the same municipalities where violent incidents have occurred and where the governor himself had warned a day earlier of possible “hotbeds of violence.”
