By the end of the year there will be a charging point for electric cars every 50 kilometers
UTE President Silvia Emaldi attended Expo Prado 2024 this week, where she gave a speech on the occasion of the inauguration of the entity’s stand. There she spoke of the administration’s commitment to having a country with 100% electrical coverage and mentioned several future projects, particularly on renewable energy and the implementation of 370 electric chargers throughout the national territory.
Emaldi said that “by the end of the year, the national electric route will have 370 chargers installed throughout the country,” which means that there will be a charging point every 50 kilometers, but also fast charging points. Currently, and according to information issued by the Presidency in March, Uruguay stands out as the most advanced country in Latin America regarding the extension of electric power on roads. The fast charging points that Silvia Emaldi referred to fill 80% of the vehicle battery in 20 minutes and constitute 100 of the total 320 chargers that exist at the country level so far.
“It is not just about infrastructure, it is also about software and application development that allows customers to see where the charging points are, whether they are occupied or free, what their price is, and to start interacting with other charging networks. We aim for private investors to also install their own networks to facilitate electric mobility,” added the president.
UTE’s investment in renewable energy is based on the idea that its focus is on “continuing to transform the country with energy” and “decarbonize it,” according to Emaldi. It is estimated that by the end of the year the number of electric cars in circulation will be in the order of 9,000 vehicles.
