The Federal Police (PF) indicted this Thursday (12) federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) in the investigation that investigates an alleged “kickback” scheme to force employees in his office to return part of their salaries.
The final report of the investigation was sent to Minister Luiz Fux, rapporteur of the investigation into the case at the Federal Supreme Court (STF). In addition to Janones, two former aides of the deputy were indicted for the crimes of embezzlement, criminal association and passive corruption.
THE opening of the investigation was requested by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in December of last year.
At the time, published news reports and criminal complaints filed with the PGR by opposition politicians reported that Janones had sent audio messages via WhatsApp to former aides requesting that part of their salaries be transferred to help with electoral campaigns. The events allegedly occurred from 2019 onwards.
In the indictment report, the PF said that there was a variation in Janones’ assets in 2019 and 2020, resulting in uncovered values of R$64.4 thousand and R$86.1 thousand, respectively.
“This fact, added to the other elements collected during the investigation, reinforces the Judicial Police’s understanding of the practice popularly known as rachadinha in the office of federal deputy André Janones”, stated the PF.
THE Brazil Agency contacted André Janones’ office and is awaiting a response. The space is open for demonstrations.
