Colombia, one of the OECD countries with fewer vacation days

Each country has its own holidays. In the Colombian case, it is the nation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) that adds the most holidays.

(Read: Colombia, the OECD country where people work the longest).

In total, in Colombia there are 18 national holidays that together with the average vacation time of a worker, which is 15 days, a total of 33 days off.

The second country with the most holidays in the OECD is Japan where 16 days a year are recorded. Followed by Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia that register 15 holidays.

On the other hand, countries with fewer holidays are Chile, which only has 5; then Greece, with 6; This is followed by Australia with 7 and the United Kingdom and Mexico with 8 holidays.

(What’s more: Taxes and subsidies, axes of the changes urged by the OECD).

Now, although Colombia has more holidays, it does not lead the top of the countries with more days off for workers, according to the OECD. In this sense, it is the eighth country with fewer legal holidays in the year.

There are other cases like United States in which the law does not stipulate a minimum number of vacation days. Then there is Mexico in which there are 6, Canada and Japan with 10 days, Chile and South Korea with 15.

For their part, the countries with the most vacation time in the year are Austria, France, Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark, which have 25 days.

However, Austria is the OECD member country that accumulates the most days off for their workers, with a total of 38. This is followed by France and Spain with 36, then Luxembourg, Portugal and Sweden with 35.
