Encouraged by its loyal fans, Corinthians defeated Juventude 3-1 on Wednesday night (11) and qualified for the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil. Timão secured its place because it overcame the 2-1 defeat it suffered in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
Now Corinthians awaits the match between Bahia and Flamengo, next Thursday (12) at the Maracanã stadium, to find out their opponent in the semi-final of the competition. In the first leg, Rubro-Negro triumphed 1-0 even playing in Salvador.
Needing to win, Corinthians opened the scoring in the 28th minute, with a cross-shot from Paraguayan Ángel Romero. But Juventude showed courage and managed to equalize before half-time. In the 40th minute, goalkeeper Hugo Souza ended up deflecting the ball into the goal defended by himself after Alan Ruschel lifted the ball into the area.
After the break, Corinthians took control of the match and managed to secure the result needed to qualify thanks to goals from Zé Marcos (own goal in the 36th minute) and André Ramalho (in the 51st minute).
Penalty shootout classification
Another team to advance to the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil this Wednesday was Vasco, who, after being defeated by Athletico-PR 2-1 in Curitiba, secured qualification by winning the penalty shootout 5-4.
The spot had to be disputed on penalties because in the first leg, in São Januário, Cruzmaltino won 2-1.
In the next stage of the competition, Vasco will face whoever wins between São Paulo and Atlético-MG.
