Morena blames Piña for the blockage that persists in the Chamber of Deputies

Enrique Mendez and Fernando Camacho

The newspaper La Jornada
Wednesday, September 11, 2024, p. 5

Morena in the Chamber of Deputies held the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Norma Piña, responsible for maintaining the blockade of the legislative building and trying to create the conditions to extend the strike until October 1, the day of the inauguration of the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Without a doubt. She has been very consistent in her discontent and has been escalating in tone, so much so that now the Judiciary is paralyzed throughout the country, with more than 500 thousand pending cases to be resolved. She is the head of the Judiciary and the person responsible for maintaining this situation.declared the coordinator of the Morena deputies, Ricardo Monreal.

Yesterday, and due to the take of the Chamber, the majority bench held its plenary meeting 17 kilometers from the premises, at the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico, where each of the legislators received a check for 75 thousand pesos, as their first diet (salary).

The meeting was dominated by bickering between the various groups after Monreal submitted to the vote of the party that Mauricio Farah be the Secretary General of the Chamber, even though it is an institutional position, not a party position.

Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar, vice-coordinator of Morena, asked that the appointment be delayed, as he did two weeks ago, when he proposed postponing the appointment of Fernando Castro Trenti as financial coordinator.

After the meeting, while the deputies were lining up to receive their first check and then another to eat cakes brought by the Yucatecan Jessi Saidén, Monreal offered a press conference, in which he announced that he has persistently sought out Minister Piña to attempt a dialogue.

“I was going to see her, by the way, last week, but it was when They took for the first time the Chamber and the meeting did not take place,” he revealed.

The legislator expressed that the legislative majority does not plan to look for an alternative venue to hold the ordinary sessions, nor to carry out the ceremony of transfer of the Executive Branch, because it appeals to the fact that prudence and common sense return to the group of nonconformists, to whom We have nothing left to offer. There is no way anymore because the legislative process is underway..

He insisted that they will wait for the workers to voluntarily lift the blockade. We are not going to force our way into the House or create conditions that will lead to social tension. Our call is to be allowed to work.he added.

Monreal recalled that constitutional reforms on indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples and the National Guard are scheduled to be approved next week in sessions that would take place on Wednesday and Thursday, if conditions are met and the blockade is lifted.

On the other hand, he acknowledged the gesture Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares, former governor of Veracruz, to eventually vote in favor of the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation.

The fact that you decide to participate with us deserves all my respect because it is a decision that has cost you, regardless of your past, for the sake of a better Republic.the legislator stressed.
