Chamber of Deputies Ethics Committee opens investigation against Glauber Braga

The Ethics Council of the Chamber of Deputies approved, by 10 votes to two, the beginning of the investigation for breach of parliamentary decorum against federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ). Braga is responsible for having a militant of the Free Brazil Movement was pushed and expelled from the Chamber (MBL). At the time, the activist insulted the parliamentarian’s mother.Chamber of Deputies Ethics Committee opens investigation against Glauber Braga

In the previous session, after learning of the favorable opinion on the start of the investigations, Glauber accused the president of the Chamber, deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL), of articulating the revocation of his mandate on the Ethics Council.

THE case rapporteurfederal deputy Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA), denies that he is guided by Lira and argued that it is inevitable to request the admissibility of the breach of decorum process due to the evidence present in the process.

“How could I save Congressman Glauber from coming here to clarify and show the denial of everything that is in my report? I would be giving him the opportunity to come here and show, not only to us, but to all of Brazil, that he was being treated unfairly,” he highlighted.

Glauber once again accused Lira and Magalhães of plotting to have his mandate revoked. “Will Your Excellency commit to the microphone that you will not appear in any video or audio in which you have a conversation with Arthur Lira and his interlocutors, asking him to present the report in exactly these terms?” he asked.

“Neither he nor anyone else can guide me on what to do. Now, my vote is against Your Excellency,” replied Magalhães.

Congressman Alexandre Leite (União-SP) said that Glauber’s accusations offended the Ethics Council and stated that he will request the precautionary suspension of his mandate on the Board of Directors.

On the other hand, federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) argued that, of the 34 representations presented in the current legislature in the Ethics Council, only two were accepted: against deputy Chiquinho Brazão (No party-RJ), accused of ordering the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco, and the case against Glauber. According to Sâmia, this indicates the disproportionality of the Council in relation to other cases of breach of parliamentary decorum.

According to her, Congressman Glauber’s reaction occurred because his mother was sick and was offended by the MBL activist. “What would you do if you were with your mother in a very difficult situation, a few days before she died, being attacked, offended and humiliated in your work environment?”

Lira

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, condemned the behavior of Congressman Glauber Braga. In a statement, he said that insults, personal offenses and aggression are behaviors incompatible with the composure and decorum expected of a member of the Chamber of Deputies.

“Episodes like the one that occurred today deserve immediate condemnation, on the part of a parliamentarian who is already responding to another process before the Ethics Council, for having attacked a person present inside the Chamber of Deputies itself, the house of the people’s representatives,” highlighted Lira.
