The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Marcos Pontes, is the interviewee this Monday (21) of the program No Censorship. The conversation with journalist and presenter Marina Machado includes topics such as the directions of technology in Brazil, national vaccine against covid-19 and financing of innovation projects in bioeconomy and digital transformation.
Born in Bauru, São Paulo, Marcos César Pontes is a lieutenant colonel aviator R1 of the Brazilian Air Force, a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical sciences and public administration from the Academia da Força Aérea Brasileira, an aeronautical engineer, graduated from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), master in systems engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School, in California (United States), and a test pilot of fighter planes with more than 2 thousand hours of flight in 25 types of aircraft.
A member of the 1998 class of astronauts at NASA, the US space agency, and the team at the Roscosmos agency (Russia) in 2005, Marcos Pontes is the only Brazilian to go to space and the first professional astronaut and cosmonaut to officially represent a Southern Hemisphere country in space.
He carried out the Centenary Mission in 2006, the result of a partnership between the Brazilian Space Agency and the Russian Space Agency, working ten days on the International Space Station as a mission specialist, responsible for the maintenance of the spacecraft’s systems and for the execution of scientific research chosen by the Academy.
