A mission made up of representatives of organizations and parliamentarians linked to human rights will visit lands of the Avá-Guarani and Guarani and Kaiowá peoples, between Wednesday (11) and Friday (13), in the west of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. The territories have been targets of attacks in the last two months, according to civil society organizations.
The goal is to provide support to the people, listen to the demands of the communities in an attempt to combat the increase in violence, such as threats, aggression and arson. In August, farmers attacked with firearms, Avá Guarani indigenous people who live in Tekoa Yhovy, in the municipality of Guaíra (PR). Six people were hospitalized.
The mission was organized by the Collective of Solidarity and Commitment to the Guarani People, a group formed by indigenous, human rights and social movement organizations, including the Arns Commission, the Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi), the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST), Aty Guasu (the Great Guarani and Kaiowá Assembly), the Campaign Against Violence in the Countryside, the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) and the Socio-Environmental Support and Incentive Network (RAIS). The group will be escorted by the Federal Highway Police.
Representatives from the Ministries of Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights, the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai), the Human Rights Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) will also be present.
The visits will take place in the municipalities of Terra Roxa and Guaíra, in western Paraná; in Dourados, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
