The Minister of the Interior, Juan Jose Santivañezis one step away from being questioned by the Congress of the Republic. Legislator Susel Paredes of the Democratic Popular Bloc reported that only one signature is missing to complete the 20 required to present the motion of questioning before the Chief Clerk.
The aim, he said, is for the head of the Interior sector to appear before the Congress to address the questions raised about his performance in office, to respond to the high levels of crime that have been recorded in different parts of the country and to his lack of leadership in the fight against citizen insecurity.
“The Minister of the Interior must be held accountable for the wave of kidnappings and extortions that are sweeping the country. The security crisis is alarming, and the scandals over the audio recordings only make the situation worse,” he wrote in X.
Santiváñez has been the subject of a series of questions in recent weeks. Since taking office, he has not managed to capture the fugitive leader of Peru Libre and former political partner of President Vladimir Cerrón; nor has he reduced the cases of assaults, robberies, contract killings and kidnappings not only in our capital but also in the provinces.

In this context, it is worth remembering the latest Ipsos survey for Peru21 which reveals that 8 out of 10 Peruvians believe that President Dina Boluarte appointed Santiváñez as Minister of the Interior to protect her from the police and judicial investigation she is facing in the so-called Rolex case.
According to the audio of an alleged conversation between the minister and PNP Captain Junior Izquierdo, the former allegedly told the police officer that the president was interested in deactivating the High Crime Investigation Division (Diviac) that has seen a series of cases and investigations involving officials of this government.
