During the months of June, July and August, the Cerro Largo Municipality provided a special food service that was delivered late in the afternoon.
The so-called Hot Dish is part of the PAS – Social Assistance Program – carried out by the Departmental Executive together with the National Food Institute (INDA) and the National Army through the 8th Cavalry Regiment.
“It is a large investment. We have a counterpart from our partner, INDA. The Municipality has an investment of close to $8,000,000 during the three months that the Program lasts.” revealed Mauricio Yurramendi during the live interview of THE PROFESSIONAL Daily as of this Tuesday, September 10.
“Apart from what we produce here, we also have the Municipalities’ part. More than 2,400 baskets were given out in 10 Municipalities and food was provided in the remaining 4. 17 neighborhood soup kitchens were supported for 3 months in Melo, Río Branco and Noblía.” explained the Director of Social Management of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.
“Assistance was also provided to homes and health centres, and hot milk was served in the soup kitchens. This is a very large programme in which the Municipality made a large investment with significant support from INDA, fundamental support from Frigorífico PUL, from Minerva, and also from other institutions in the area.” he highlighted.

In the summer, with the heat, people cope differently, but winter is cruel, on days when it gets dark at 5 in the afternoon with very low temperatures. MORE THAN 5000 FAMILIES SERVED IN ALL OF CERRO LARGO
“We were able to reach more than 5,000 families throughout the department every evening. On Saturdays with the people’s neighborhood pots, on Sundays with hot milk. The basket service was permanent.” said Yurramendi.
“It is a great investment that is sometimes not seen because what the population sees in the work, the fixed street, is also a very important social investment. It must be taken into account that we also collaborate with more than 10 nursing homes and health centres on a weekly basis.
