Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) deplored that sectors of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) in San Francisco de Macorís, San Juan and Barahona paralyze teaching in educational centers in those provinces in demand of payment of the salaries of teachers who have duplicate payrolls.
The Ministry of Education stated that the interruption of classes constitutes a foolish act on the part of the teaching union because it affects thousands of children and young people in the public pre-university education system who are just beginning the 2024-2025 school year.
The Minerd stated that this irrational and thoughtless position only serves the interests of radical groups of the ADP, whose only purpose is to attack the education of the most vulnerable sectors of society.
The governing body in educational matters pointed out that the internal control bodies of the Dominican State payrolls withheld the salaries of 341 teachers who have two jobs in the public administration, in compliance with a legal provision that establishes that there cannot be a coincidence in the hours they work in both jobs.
“Although this is a personal matter, which each teacher must resolve by presenting a certification from the place in the public sector where he or she works, the Ministry of Education decided to intervene to achieve a solution to the problem as soon as possible,” added Minerd.
He indicated that of the 341 teachers who had their pay withheld, 327 have submitted their certifications, so they will begin to receive their respective salaries this week.
The Ministry of Education called on the country’s teachers to prioritize their responsibility to teach in order not to affect the teaching-learning process of students, and also called on the ADP to analyze the consequences of its untimely calls to suspend classes without justified cause.
